When Did You Last Check Your Tires?

posted on

When is the last time that you took a good look at your tires? Being proactive and checking your tires before a trip can be a make or break for a successful outing.Below are a few things we recommend watching out for. As always, if you have questions don’t hesitate to give Bolton Tire Service a call!

Check Your Tire Pressure

Proper tire pressure is super is key. Underinflated tires can make controlling your car more difficult, reduce gas mileage and may lead to tire failure.  You can find the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations for tire pressure on a label affixed to the driver’s door or door jamb, or in the vehicle owner’s manual. Remember that tire pressure should be checked when the tires are “cold,” which means when your car hasn’t been driven recently.

How is Your Tread?

Tire tread wears away over time and should have a minimum depth. Fortunately, this is an easy thing to check: You can check at home by inserting a penny into the groove on the tire with President Lincolns’ head upside down. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to shop for a new tire or set of tires.

Does Your Tread Look Uneven?

Uneven wear to your tire’s tread can be caused by many factors including improper inflation, issues with your suspension or misaligned wheels . Do you see flat spot? That can signal a problem with the tire and you need to have it checked by a professional like Bolton Tire Service right away.

Cracks on Sides of Tires?

Cracks on the sidewall of your tires are signs that your tires have been damaged. Damage can occur from excessive heat exposure, abrasion, or a variety of road hazards. If you notice cracks in your tires, stop in and let us take a look, your tires could be more susceptible to failure.

Bulge in Tire?

If there is an unusual bump or blister anywhere on a tire,  is needs to replaced it ASAP. This is a sign of tire failure.

Vibration When Driving?

A vibration problem could be caused by any number of things , including misaligned wheels or a bent rim. If you feel a vibration or hear unusual noises, bring it in and have it inspected right away to prevent further damage.

Remember, your tires are the foundation of your vehicle, you don’t want to ignore them! Whether you have questions about your vehicle’s tires or need to schedule an appointment, give us a call today, we would be happy to help!
